George Soros knows how to Protest Injustice

Injustice is all around us. At any given moment, a governmental or institutional group can rise-up to create a lot of pain and wreak havoc on a group of people. Whether this group is a national minority, immigrants from another land or refugee settlers; the tyranny of a traditional institution can cause people to suffer. Men like George Soros cannot sit idly by while this happens.

George Soros is a man of great wealth and position. He is ranked as one of the top 30th wealthiest people on the planet. Soros has been around for a very long time. He was born in Hungary back in 1930. In 2017, he is 86-years-old. A man who has lived for almost a century has seen a lot of things throughout his life. He is also full of experience and wisdom.

Soros was a teenager when the Nazi’s overran his homeland of Hungary. Since his family was Jewish his father managed to deceive the Nazi’s to keep them from the horrors of the Concentration Camps. Even though Soros was spared that nightmare he had to endure other things. He had to watch how the Nazi’s negatively treated and oppressed his people. He knew that this could never happen again in life. Learn more on Discover the Networks about George Soros.

Fast forward to the present; George Soros is now doing everything he can to stop government dictatorship and institutional dominance from ruing the lives of many people. This is one reason why he helped to organize civil protest in Ferguson during the Michael Brown protests.

Minority people constantly suffer under the hand of police authority. This is especially true for members of the Black Community. There has always been a historical connection between police brutality and the Black Community. Ever since organized police forces came into existence within America; they have been used to subject the African American community to control and violence.

From the days of Jim Crow, to the Watts Riots of 68, to the Rodney King Riots of 1992; black people have always been protesting the devastating police brutality that has been happening within their community. This trend has to stop and George Soros is helping to change this situation.

Soros knows that social protest is an effective force for change. In an open society, people can protest and speak out to bring about change. Soros likes societies such as these because it brings about balance. The traditional authorities do not get to permanently dictate how things are going to be for people. End Citizens United PAC Aims at Making Itself a Reality

A fresh political action committee dedicated to bringing reform in campaign finance targeted to become a huge player in 2016. The PAC planned to channel dollars (tens of millions) to the Democratic candidates seeking various House as well as Senate seats countrywide. The group, End Citizens United, was launched in August, 2015 and managed to raise over $2 milion from the small donors. The group aimed at getting between $25 million to $30 million for the whole cycle according to Richard Carbo, the communications director.

Group’s Goal

End Citizens United had an ultimate goal of ensuring that a constitutional amendment passed in order to reverse the Citizens United decision of the Supreme Court. This decision had, in 2010, given rise to the formation of super PACs that brought about a huge wave of dark money into the politics arena. Over 325,000 people had already signed the petition by End Citizens United seeking to compel Congress to ensure the passage of such legislation. The number of members increased as it partnered with “Ready for Hillary” and rented its email list. This was an effort to reach as many prospective liberal supporters possible.

How was End Citizens United PAC Different from Others?

Carbo observed that End Citizens United was different from the other PACs in that it focused on campaign finance reform. It recognized the weakness in the conversation and addressed its political side as well as getting people who could change the existing laws elected. The group was backing pro-campaign finance reform candidates who would stand up against the Citizens United. The group planned to come up with an autonomous expenditure arm that would financially back its preferred candidates via initiatives like polling, direct mailers and television ads.

Skepticism from Campaign Finance Experts

A number of campaign finance experts treated the hopes of End Citizens United with skepticism. The skepticism was aimed at the key objective of the group; the passing of a constitutional amendment to upend the Supreme Court’s decision made in 2010. Their skepticism stems from the fact that for a constitutional amendment to go through, it must garner the consent of two thirds of the House and Senate as well as be ratified by three-fourths of the states.

About End Citizens United

End Citizens United was formed on March 1st, 2015 with an aim of countering the dangerous consequences of Citizens United as well as to reform the campaign finance system. The group aimed at showing all elected officials, voters, press and the candidates that persons in the grassroots were fighting the increased brazenness by billionaires to buy US elections. The End Citizens United would be a key broad coalition in the struggle towards reforming the campaign finance and pile pressure on lawmakers to act.

Venazualean Judges and Congress Disagree on Amnesty to Free Socialist Prisoners

Back in March things looked good for political activists who were imprisoned in 1999 for opposing the social revolution, created by the late President Hugo Chavez who had passed away in 2013 from cancer. Supporters of the bill had celebrated by lighting fireworks in the street and posting videos on  Youtube shouting victoriously. Lawmakers joined the families of the prisoners as they rejoiced in their pending freedom. Unfortunately, several hours before the bill was officially passed, President Nicolás Maduro repeated that he would not let the bill go through. He claimed that if the bill was passed it would free murderers and terrorists. Maduro’s critic Jose Manuel Gonzalez say that he is ignoring the fact that these were student demonstrators who were arrested and thrown in jail. Maduro is accused of continuing to support fabricated charges placed against these protesters and that they are not murderers and terrorists.
A few days ago, Venezuela’s supreme court blocked the congressional decision to free political prisoners, a fight that was led by Leopoldo López, which according to activist Manuel Gonzalez is a political prisoner who was barred for six years from holding public office, beginning in 2008 because of his affiliation with human rights groups. He was arrested in 2014 for participating in human rights demonstration in Caracas and for allegedly causing violence. Had the bill for amnesty of political prisoners gone through, López, who is serving a sentence of 14 years, would have been one of the freed prisoners.
